I was at my church worshipping one day, asking the Lord to pour Himself out in and to me. This seemed like a reasonable request, in the context of renewal, and the Lord wonderfully pouring out his Holy Spirit into people, changing their hearts and lives. Jesus' response startled me. He asked me, "Could you not pour yourself out to me?" And He reminded me of how the Apostle Paul compared himself to a drink offering, being poured out (2 Timothy 4:6). Paul's worship, his offering at the alter, was a life completely poured out in love and service to his Master. My gratitude for all God had done for me welled up inside me, so I decided to rise to the challenge and began to sing "Pour it out, I pour it out, I pour it out, O God…"
